US President Donald Trump has appointed White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf as the new White House counsel, elevating him to the administration’s top legal position.
Trump announced on Sunday that Scharf would assume the position of White House counsel and assistant to the president effective September 1.
Scharf currently serves as White House staff secretary, where he oversees administrative operations for the Oval Office. In his new role, he will become the administration’s principal legal adviser.
Scharf has also led the National Capital Planning Commission, which approved plans for the construction of Trump’s proposed White House ballroom.
Trump said the current White House counsel, David Warrington, would leave the administration to join the private sector.
Warrington previously served as Trump’s personal counsel and also worked as a lawyer for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
