Former US President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones and is causing severe pain, his son Hunter Biden has said.
Hunter Biden disclosed the development in an interview, saying the 83-year-old former president’s condition had become painful and debilitating. “The cancer has spread, metastasised into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
A spokesman for Biden declined to comment on the interview on Saturday.
Biden revealed in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.
At the time, Biden said he and his family were dealing with the diagnosis with support from his doctors and loved ones.
A spokesman later disclosed in October that the former president was undergoing radiation treatment and hormone therapy as part of his treatment.
The latest comments from Hunter Biden indicate that the cancer has since progressed beyond the bones, although no further details about his father’s medical condition were immediately provided.
Biden’s health was a major issue during his presidency between 2021 and 2025, with his physical condition and mental acuity coming under increasing public scrutiny.
He became the oldest person to win the US presidency when he was elected in 2020, defeating Republican incumbent Donald Trump.
Biden left office in January 2025 after deciding not to seek re-election and was succeeded by Trump.
Despite his health challenges, Biden has continued to make occasional public appearances. He attended the dedication of former President Barack Obama’s presidential library in Chicago in June.
Biden served as Obama’s vice-president from 2009 to 2017 before winning the presidency in 2020.
His presidential memoir is scheduled to be released on November 17.
The latest disclosure about Biden’s health comes as the former president maintains a lower public profile following his departure from the White House.
