Victims abducted during the deadly attacks on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have arrived in Ilorin after spending several months in captivity.
The rescued victims were received late Thursday at the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division Headquarters, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, after being transported from neighbouring Niger State, where they regained their freedom following sustained security operations.
The victims were kidnapped in February when armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on the rural communities, killing several residents and abducting scores of people.
The attacks triggered widespread concern and prompted intensified military operations involving security agencies across Kwara and neighbouring states.
Following their arrival in Ilorin, the victims were taken to a secure location, where security agencies began post-rescue screening, identification and welfare procedures. Authorities are also conducting medical assessments and arranging psychological and humanitarian support to aid their recovery after months in captivity.
The rescued victims are expected to be formally received by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose administration has maintained close engagement with security agencies throughout the rescue efforts.
Earlier on Thursday, Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that the victims were receiving medical attention at a federal government facility before being transferred to Ilorin.
Security authorities described the victims’ return as a significant breakthrough in the prolonged efforts to secure the release of those abducted.
Officials added that verification is ongoing to establish the exact number of those rescued, while efforts continue to account for anyone who may still be missing.
The February attacks on Woro and Nuku communities were among the deadliest incidents recorded in Kaiama Local Government Area this year, with victims from both Kwara and neighbouring Niger State affected by the wave of violence.
