At least eight people were killed in a shooting rampage in Thailand’s Nonthaburi Province on Friday after a teenage student allegedly shot his grandparents before opening fire at his school, authorities said.
According to police, the suspect first killed his grandparents with his grandfather’s handgun before travelling to Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, on the outskirts of Bangkok.
At the school, the teenager allegedly shot and killed three teachers and three students before taking his own life, bringing the total death toll to eight victims, excluding the suspected gunman.
Investigators said the suspect, a ninth-grade student believed to be about 14 years old, fired 26 rounds during the attack. Police also recovered an additional 34 rounds of ammunition from the scene.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the teenager gained access to the firearm and what may have motivated the attack.
The tragedy marks Thailand’s second school shooting of 2026. In February, a teacher was killed and a student was injured in a separate shooting at a school in the country’s southern region.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over school security and firearm access in Thailand, where several high-profile gun violence cases in recent years have prompted calls for stronger preventive measures.
