Ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, the police say about 15,000 personnel will be deployed to provide security during the exercise.
The Commissioner of Police overseeing the election, Samuel Etaifo, disclosed this in Osogbo on Wednesday while addressing officers assigned to the polls.
He said the deployment would include conventional police officers, specialised units, the Police Mobile Force, medical personnel and the dog section, adding that senior officers, including a Deputy Inspector-General of Police and an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, would supervise the operation.
Etaifo said his deployment was brought forward due to rising tensions in the state, noting that some officers had already been sent to Osun following reports of increased violence.
He charged personnel to remain professional, operate within the law and ensure that the election is conducted peacefully and credibly.
The CP warned that anyone found attempting to disrupt the process, regardless of status, would face the full consequences of the law.
He also said anyone arrested for violating electoral laws during or after the election would be transferred to Abuja, describing the Osun governorship poll as a national assignment.
The August 15 election will feature 14 candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term.
