Nigerian singer Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has unveiled plans to receive a tribal mark on his 50th birthday.
In a recent video shared on his TikTok page, the Ogbomosho-born artist revealed that the decision is a tribute to his father, who also bears the same mark.
“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but, you will see,” 9ice said.
Known for his rich Yoruba lyrics and unique delivery style, 9ice rose to fame with his 2008 hit ‘Gongo Aso’ and has since built a lasting legacy in the Nigerian music scene.
In an interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, the artist opened up about his spiritual journey, revealing he is a traditional worshiper. He shared a personal story about seeking help from an Ifa priest during a severe spiritual attack that caused him to vomit blood for six months.
After his recovery, 9ice expressed regret for not embracing traditional spirituality earlier, highlighting the significance of cultural roots in his life.
His announcement about the tribal mark adds another layer to his deep connection with Yoruba tradition and identity.
