A major leadership transition has taken place at the Nigeria Police Force following the confirmation of Tunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, with several Deputy Inspectors-General reportedly vacating their offices.
Among those affected is Frank Mba, alongside seven other senior officers. Although no formal retirement announcement has been issued, sources within the Force Headquarters in Abuja say the officers have already left their positions, signalling a restructuring within the police hierarchy.
The affected Deputy Inspectors-General include officers overseeing key departments such as Operations, Intelligence, Training, Logistics, ICT, Research and Planning, Finance, and Administration. These departments traditionally form the core command structure under the Inspector-General of Police.
According to internal sources, the reorganisation follows recent changes in the top leadership of the Nigeria Police Force. The restructuring is expected to pave the way for new appointments to fill the vacant DIG positions.
Officials familiar with the process say some Assistant Inspectors-General were considered for elevation, with one senior officer reportedly awaiting formal decoration before the latest adjustments.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Disu as Inspector-General at age 59, weeks before his scheduled retirement, in a move that signalled a transition in the force’s leadership.
The Police Service Commission is expected to announce the newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General soon, following the conclusion of the ongoing leadership review.
Further details on the full list of replacements are anticipated in the coming days as the police complete the restructuring process.
