In a show of appreciation to the people of Khana, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has said Rivers State would focus on development-oriented leadership in the 2027 elections, building on lessons from the past.
Wike made the statement during a thank-you visit to residents of Bori, Khana Local Government Area, where he expressed gratitude for their unwavering support.
According to the former Rivers governor, leaders are elected to serve the will of the people, not personal interests. “We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027. When the time comes, we will talk about it,” Wike said. “Just follow your leaders. Wherever you see them going, that is where we are going”.
He emphasized that his visit was not politically motivated, but aimed at recognizing the people of Khana for standing by him and President Bola Tinubu, particularly during the 2023 elections.
Wike noted that the Khana community showed bold support for Tinubu at a time when many others hesitated, highlighting the resulting developmental benefits. “During the turbulent period, Khana stood with us, and today you can see the benefits – good roads, the University of Environment, and other projects, all because of President Tinubu’s commitment”, he said.
He added that many appointments have been made in Ogoniland, with more expected, and stressed that Rivers people would increasingly vote based on development and community interest rather than strictly along party lines, under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
