Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has dismissed concerns about the longevity of Afrobeats, insisting the genre remains strong and future-proof.
Speaking during a recent interview on Wazobia FM with media personality Yaw, the veteran singer credited the next generation of artists for keeping the sound fresh and globally relevant.
According to him, the creativity and dynamism of emerging musicians continue to push Afrobeats to new heights, ensuring its place on the international stage. He maintained that the genre’s evolution is driven by the unique styles and innovative approaches of younger performers.
2Baba highlighted a recent remake of his classic track If Love Is A Crime by fast-rising artist Fola as a strong example of this evolution. He praised the rendition for its smooth delivery and distinct vocal style, noting that it reflects the quality and originality present in today’s music scene.
Reaffirming his stance, the singer stated that Afrobeats is far from decline, emphasising that the new wave of talent has the capacity to sustain and expand the genre’s global influence.
