The Federal Government has confirmed the successful rescue of 24 schoolgirls abducted in Maga, Kebbi State on Tuesday, as President Bola Tinubu hailed the operation and called for intensified action against rising school kidnappings.
President Tinubu welcomed the news in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noting that the girls were seized at dawn on November 17, just moments after a military detachment left the school premises.
Their release comes at a time when other states have suffered similar attacks. In Eruku, Kwara State, all 38 abducted residents were freed on Sunday, while in Niger State, 50 missing students of a Catholic school have been reunited with their families.
Tinubu praised the security agencies for their coordination and swift response, urging them to sustain momentum and ensure the safe return of any victims still in captivity.
“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must urgently deploy more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this”, he said.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting schools and vulnerable communities from terrorist attacks, pledging continuous support for security operations across affected regions.
