Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Monday morning in Hollywood following an alleged assault on a ride-share driver, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has confirmed.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Police said Sutherland, 59, entered the ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. Thankfully, the victim was not injured during the confrontation.
Sutherland was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. Representatives for the actor have not yet commented on the matter. The LAPD’s Hollywood division is continuing its investigation.
The Canadian-American actor is widely recognized for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the TV series 24 and as the U.S. president in Designated Survivor. He is also the son of the late veteran actor Donald Sutherland.
This is not Sutherland’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 2007, he served 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating probation. In 2009, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting fashion designer Jack McCollough, although the charge was later dropped. His most recent prior arrest occurred in 2020 following an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
Authorities continue to investigate the latest incident as the actor awaits his upcoming court appearance.
