
Not fewer than 23 terrorists have been neutralised and 26 kidnap victims rescued in coordinated operations by troops of the Nigerian Army, Defence Special Operations Force, and the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Kankara and Matazu Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
A military source at the Army Headquarters told newsmen on Monday that troops also arrested 14 suspected terrorists and criminals across the Northeast and Northcentral regions, recovering assorted weapons and logistics supplies. Additionally, four members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) surrendered in the Northeast.
According to the source, on 6 September 2025, troops of the 17 Brigade, supported by the Defence Special Operations Force and the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, launched a major offensive in Pauwa village, Kankara LGA. The joint force engaged terrorists fortified on Pauwa Hill in a fierce firefight, with aerial surveillance and artillery support helping to dislodge the insurgents.
In a separate operation in Kukawa LGA of Borno State, troops of the 19 Brigade arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier while attempting to move items from Cross Kauwa to Dawoshi village. Recovered from the suspect were a mobile phone, wristwatch, ₦55,000 cash, and other items. He remains in custody for further investigation.
