Dele Momodu, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asserted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the only opposition figure capable of mounting a serious challenge to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Facebook, the veteran journalist and political commentator criticized the opposition’s failure to unite or formulate a cohesive strategy to unseat the incumbent president.
Momodu wrote: “I often wonder how some opposition presidential aspirants believe they can defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027—barely a year away—when they have yet to come together and agree on a common strategy. Contesting for the highest office in any country is no child’s play.”
He emphasized that Atiku Abubakar, pursuing his seventh presidential bid, stands out as the only opposition leader methodically and practically working toward victory. “Winning against a formidable incumbent requires more than social media popularity. It demands a vast war chest, extensive nationwide structures, strategic religious and ethnic balancing, and overwhelming grassroots support,” Momodu noted.
Reflecting on the state of the opposition, he added: “Many opposition figures are simply not ready. Some have abandoned their ambitions, while others appear indifferent to Tinubu’s continued administration. As for me and my house, we see Atiku as the only credible contender prepared to mount a serious campaign.”
