Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly debunked reports claiming he plans to step down for another presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released Thursday by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the reports as a “deliberate misrepresentation” of his recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
According to Ibe, a detailed review of both the video and transcripts of the interview—originally in Hausa and its English translation—shows that Atiku neither stated, suggested, nor implied that he intends to withdraw his ambition for anyone.
“The facts are clear,” the statement read. “At no point did the former Vice President make such a declaration. The claims being circulated are baseless and misleading.”
The clarification comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, with Atiku stressing that he remains committed to his political pursuits and has not anointed or deferred to any rival aspirant.
